Meet Dr. Anna Lafian

Dr. Lafian was raised in Glendale, California. She attended the University of California, Irvine where she received her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. She then ventured to Washington, DC for her Masters Degree at Georgetown University, studying Physiology and Complementary/Alternative Medicine. While she always had the intuition that medicine should be approached in a holistic fashion, this degree solidified that passion and motivated her to pursue osteopathic medical school.

Dr. Lafian earned her medical degree from Touro University in Northern California. She completed Internal Medicine residency at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, a rigorous county hospital in San Bernardino.

After working as an Internal Medicine hospitalist for one year, she returned to fellowship in Rheumatology at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Thereafter, she worked in a busy Rheumatology private practice in Covina prior to venturing into establishing her own practice. She is double board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. In the near future, her goal is to become functional medicine certified, in order to better identify and treat each patients’ underlying trigger(s) for autoimmune disease.

She has published a number of articles and book chapters in the following topics – osteoporosis, spinal stenosis, psoriatic arthritis, the use of lung ultrasound in connective tissue diseases, antiphospholipid syndrome and NMO transverse myelitis. In addition, she has presented a number of abstracts at American College of Rheumatology annual meetings. Her research interests include the association between gut microbial dysbiosis and autoimmune conditions.
